The Top 3 Reasons You Should Start a Rehabilitation Program
Maximize Function
Why go around every day in pain? Why not be able to do the activities you love? The common reasons I hear for putting off therapy are “I just don’t have time,” or “it wasn’t affecting me that much.” Why are we not prioritizing our health (the very thing that allows us to be productive)? Without taking care of ourselves, we become less productive because it takes us more time and energy to accomplish those same tasks due to pain, decreased energy, and moving more cautiously. Therefore, carving out a few extra hours each week (I think we can all sacrifice less time on our electronics) to make time for a rehab program is absolutely necessary.
2. Long-Term Health
We know that typically if someone continues to perform the same irritating activities without seeking help, then the problem will worsen into something that severely affects one’s quality of life and function. Now, most people will instead usually end up:
1. Continuing the activity but with compensatory movements that can lead to injuries elsewhere
2. Completely stopping the irritating activity/activities which can lead to decreased quality of life, as well as the injured tissue often times not fully healing and/or not healing properly
We can prevent this from happening with a proper PT plan!
3. Save Money
Worst case scenario is having to have surgery. Unfortunately this happens quite often, usually due to continued reinjury and/or waiting too long to seek help. The earlier you seek help, the greater your chance of success in most cases.
How much money could you be saving? On average, a minor procedure such as a Meniscus Repair costs up to $5,000. However, a more major procedure such as a Total Knee Replacement can cost up to $50,000 depending on insurance coverage!
Conversely, a typical PT Plan of Care is around $2,000 and gives you the tools to prevent future injury!
